TEVETA Board Strengthens Oversight Through Nationwide TEVET Institutions Tour
The TEVETA Board has embarked on a nationwide oversight tour of Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) institutions to assess the implementation of TEVET programmes and projects, evaluate sector performance, and ensure that investments in skills development are delivering results that support Malawi 2063.

The tour, covering the Northern, Central and Southern regions, is providing Board members with an opportunity to exercise their governance and oversight responsibilities by engaging training institutions, industry partners, local authorities and apprentices.
TEVETA Board Chairperson Gilbert Chilinde said the tour provides a valuable opportunity to assess the implementation of TEVET programmes in real time and gain first-hand insight into progress on the ground.

“Through these engagements, we are monitoring the implementation of strategic initiatives, identifying implementation gaps, and ensuring that the TEVET system remains responsive to the country's evolving skills needs and national development aspirations,” he said.

Through the tour, the Board is witnessing strong industry partnerships, including the collaboration between TEVETA and Illovo Sugar Malawi, innovative workplace-based training delivered through Master Crafts under the SP-GEAR Project, progress in infrastructure development under the World Bank funded SAVE Project, and expanded access to skills training through newly established community technical colleges.

Board members are also engaging TEVET providers and key stakeholders on critical issues affecting the sector, including infrastructure development, staffing, financing, equipment utilisation, learner welfare, inclusion, quality assurance and institutional sustainability.

Insights gathered during the tour will inform Board decisions, strengthen institutional accountability, and guide strategic investments aimed at improving the quality, relevance, accessibility and impact of TEVET across Malawi, ensuring that the sector continues to equip Malawians with skills that meet current and future industry demands and skills that anchor the realization of Malawi 2063.
