ILLOVO, TEVET COLLEGES STRENGTHEN SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIP

Illovo Sugar (Malawi) Plc has strengthened its partnership with TEVET institutions through the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Tengani and Ngabu Community Technical Colleges.

The MoUs provide a framework for collaboration in skills development, industrial attachments, practical learning, knowledge transfer and ensuring training responds to industry needs.

Representing the TEVETA, Board Member Pamela Juma described the signing as more than a formal agreement, saying it represents a practical commitment by industry and training institutions to develop the skills Malawi needs for its transformation.
“The true measure of today’s achievement will not be the signatures placed on paper. The true measure will be the number of lives transformed, skills strengthened, opportunities created and productivity improved,” emphasized Juma.

Speaking on behalf of Illovo, Communications and Stakeholder Relations Manager Olive Kawelama said the addition of Tengani and Ngabu extends a relationship that started in 2023. She noted that more than 800 TEVET students have benefited from industrial attachments through the partnership, while a total number of 200 staff have already benefited from the trainings through these partnerships.

Meanwhile, Tengani Acting Principal Lewis Malunga expressed appreciation for the partnership, noting that it will create more opportunities for students to access industrial attachments and for the college to support Illovo through relevant skills training.
The partnership demonstrates the value of industry and TEVET collaboration in developing a skilled and productive workforce aligned with Malawi’s development aspirations.

TEVETA remains committed to strengthening partnerships with industry, as outlined in its Strategic Plan, to expand skills development opportunities and contribute to Malawi’s socio-economic transformation.
