Chigona Encourages TEVET Students to Pursue Skills for Employment and Entrepreneurship
Minister of Labour, Skills and Innovation, Hon. Joel Chigona, has encouraged students sitting for the July TEVET examinations at SOS Technical College in Lilongwe to remain focused and committed to their studies, saying technical and vocational skills are key to improving employment and entrepreneurship opportunities among the youth.

Joel Chigona, has encouraged students sitting for the July TEVET examinations at SOS Technical College in Lilongwe to remain focused and committed to their studies, saying technical and vocational skills are key to improving employment and entrepreneurship opportunities among the youth.
The Minister made the remarks when he visited the college to monitor the ongoing July series of TEVET examinations which started on 13th July 2026.
Chigona said the Ministry is committed to supporting technical colleges through subsidies to ensure that young people acquire relevant skills that can help them secure employment or create businesses for themselves.
Principal of SOS Technical College, Margaret Mphwiyo said that the college has experienced an increase in enrollment in recent years due to the growing opportunities available in technical and vocational education and training.
In this july series 198 students, 90 male and 108 female, are sitting for examinations in six trades, including Tailoring and Fashion Design, Electrical Installation and Electronics at the College.
Nationally, the July 2026 TEVET Examination Series, has registered 5,564 candidates, 3,694 male and 1,870 female, sitting for examinations in 21 trades across 62 technical and vocational training institutions countrywide.
This represents a 42 percent increase from the 3,926 candidates registered in the July 2025 series, an increase the Ministry attributes to the double-stream enrollment initiatives recently introduced in technical colleges.
