Finance Assistant
Purpose of the Job:
To ensure that the REWARDS project maintains an efficient and effective system of internal controls and that all transactions are recorded, processed and reported in line with GIZ guidelines.
The Finance Assistant will support the Project Coordinator and the partners to ensure that Project activities are implemented in accordance with the approved budget and work plans;
Participate in the development of REWARDS Work plans and Budgets
Assist in generating quarterly and annual project implementation reports
Work in collaboration with other Projects and Non-Projects officers in implementing project activities under each output
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Review and process project financial documentation, including activity requests and payment vouchers, in line with approved procedures.
Process payments, manage statutory deductions, and ensure timely remittance in accordance with applicable regulations.
Maintain accurate financial records, including filing, cash books, and bank reconciliations.
Support preparation of project financial reports, budgets, and funds requests.
Receive, record, and bank project funds in line with TEVETA financial policies.
Manage project stores and inventory, ensuring proper records and controls are maintained.
Support audits, procurement processes, and project implementation activities in compliance with financial and procurement.
Perform any other project‑related duties as may be assigned by the Head of Projects Management or the Projects Accountant.
Minimum Academic and Professional Qualifications
The Project Finance Assistant shall have:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field.
At least 2-3 years of working experience in Project Accounting
Have demonstrable skills in relevant computerised accounting packages
Have knowledge and understanding of the TEVET Sector;
Be a self-motivated team-player and of high integrity;
Have excellent interpersonal skills.
Good attention to detail
Knowledge of GIZ financial management rules for grant implementation is an asset
Duration of the Assignment
The contract for the Finance Assistant shall be for a period of two years, renewable subject to satisfactory annual performance reviews and availability of funding. Remuneration ranges around MWK2,700,000 (gross salary before deductions) and shall be negotiable based on candidate’s qualifications and experience.
