TEVETA Strengthens capacity gaps for Electrical Installation and Electronics Trainers

The Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA) has today successfully concluded a capacity building training it facilitated for Electrical Installation and Electronics trainers.

The week long training which took place at Soche Technical College aimed at strengthening safety, standards, and regulatory compliance in the electrical sector.

Speaking on behalf of TEVETA’s Executive Director, the Regional Service Centre Manager for the South, Madam Conceptor Bamusi, emphasised that the training responded to identified gaps in occupational safety, legal compliance, and standards among practicing electricians.

"This investment in trainers is a strategic move, as one well-equipped trainer has the potential to influence hundreds of learners, ultimately producing a safer and more professional workforce," she said.

She urged the newly trained trainers to train differently.

Representing the Ministry of Labour, Mr Goodluck Kayange commended TEVETA for the timely intervention to address critical gaps in the electrical field and urged the Authority to scale up the initiative so that similar trainings benefit all regions of Malawi, not only the South.

In his address on behalf of all training facilitators, Mr Chitani Kella from the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) expressed optimism that the knowledge imparted when transferred to trainees will promote best practices and improve quality of electrical services nationwide.

Representing the trainees, Mr Japhet Chauluka, the group president, thanked TEVETA for organising the training, describing it as a timely and impactful intervention. He highlighted that participants were now better informed on regulatory requirements, stating that “no electrician should operate without proper permits,” a realisation he said will help close existing gaps on the ground.

The training, which was conducted by facilitators from the Electricity Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM), Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) and Malawi Bureau of Standards(MBS) reached out to all Electrical Installation and Electronics instructors in all technical colleges in the southern region.

The training reinforces TEVETA’s commitment to producing competent, safety-conscious, and legally compliant artisans, directly contributing to the aspirations of Malawi 2063 through quality skills development, industrial growth, and national transformation.
