TEVETA’S PRODUCTIVITY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAMS STRENGTHEN CAPACITY AT DWANGWA CANE GROWERS LIMITED

The Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA), through its Department of Productivity Enhancement Programs (PEP), conducted a capacity-building and productivity training session for Dwangwa Cane Growers Limited (DCGL) in Nkhotakota District on Friday.

Dwangwa Cane Growers Limited, one of TEVETA’s levy-compliant institutions, was initially engaged through PEP awareness sessions. Following this engagement, DCGL management expressed interest in the programs offered under PEP and subsequently signed an Expression of Interest, enabling the PEP team to commence work within the organisation. TEVETA then conducted a comprehensive assessment aimed at understanding departmental workflows at DCGL and identifying productivity gaps across its operations.

Based on the assessment findings, several interventions were recommended, including targeted training sessions in Kaizen Concepts, Goal Alignment, and the 5S methodology (Sort, Set, Shine, Standardise, and Sustain).

These training programmes are designed to serve as key enablers in supporting DCGL’s pursuit of continuous improvement, clearer organisational priorities, improved coordination, enhanced safety standards, and effective waste management practices.

Macdonard Tembo, Finance and Administration Manager at DCGL, expressed satisfaction with the training, noting that it will help employees align their daily tasks with the company’s goals. “This training has been a success in the sense that we have learnt to work efficiently and effectively, starting from top management down to subordinate staff, in order to accomplish the company’s goals,” said Tembo.

The Productivity Enhancement Programs (PEP) is a re-engineered initiative that evolved from the former Public and Private Sector Training Program (PPSTP). PEP is research-based and focuses on productivity-enhancing elements through value-adding interventions that address skills and performance gaps within the workplace.

Through these interventions, TEVETA reaffirms its commitment to strengthening productivity, operational excellence, and workplace efficiency in Malawi’s public and private sectors.
