Minister’s Tour Confirms Steady Progress in Technical Colleges’ Infrastructure to Strengthen TEVET Delivery
The Minister of Labour, Skills and Innovation, Hon. Joel Chigona, has commenced a week-long monitoring tour of technical colleges to assess progress in infrastructure development projects supported by the World Bank, aimed at enhancing the delivery of Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training (TEVET).
During inspections at Soche and Thyolo Technical Colleges, Hon. Chigona underscored the importance of modern and well-equipped training facilities in supporting the effective delivery of TEVET programmes that respond to national skills development needs.
“Not everyone can get a white-collar job. With improved infrastructure that supports practical skills training, graduates are better positioned to create employment for themselves and contribute meaningfully to national development,” said the Minister.
Secretary for Labour, Skills and Innovation, Nwazi Mnthambala emphasized the importance of close monitoring to ensure that infrastructure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in line with required standards to support quality TEVET delivery.
TEVETA Board Chairperson, Gilbert Chilinde, reaffirmed TEVETA’s mandate of promoting, regulating, and coordinating TEVET programmes, noting that improved infrastructure is a critical enabler for quality training and competency-based outcomes across public technical colleges.
In his monitoring tour, the Minister will visit technical colleges in Chiradzulu, Machinga, and the Central Region, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen TEVET institutions nationwide.
